Ginger Hall will reopen Monday
MOREHEAD Electricity in Morehead State University’s Ginger Hall has been restored. The building will open at 8 a.m. Monday. Courses will return to the building on a class-by-class basis.
Students are asked to check Blackboard and email for the most current information.
The offices relocated will remain in their temporary locations until the end of the semester to allow for additional infrastructure work to be completed efficiently.
Faculty may return to their individual offices Monday.
Ham plant workers agree to contract
GRAYSON Workers at the Smithfield ham plant recently ratified a new five-year contract that gives them guaranteed benefits under a defined benefit pension plan for the first time.
Under the agreement negotiated by Chapter 5 of the Ashland-based National Conference of Fireman and Oilers, an affilate of the Service Employees International Union, the almost 500 hourly employees also maintain their existing 401 (k) retirement savings plan and the employer contributions to it.
The new collective bargaining agreement also provides raises totaling $1.35 per hour and improvement in paid vacation and leave policies, while freezing the percentage of health insurance costs employees pay.
MSPR adds 3 board members
MOREHEAD Morehead State Public Radio (WMKY, 90.3 FM) has announced three new members to its Community Advisory Board (CAB).
Joining the nine member advisory board are Leeann Akers, managing editor for the Grayson Journal-Times; Greg Dike, executive director of the Morehead Area Habitat for Humanity; and Angela Traver, executive director of the Rowan County Arts Center.
The CAB assists Morehead State Public Radio by making recommendations on programming, fundraising and public relations, which builds the listening audience, expands the operational base of support, offers opportunities for students and provides a better community service through educational and cultural radio programming in the community.
Members of the advisory board are volunteers who each serve a three-year term. Three members are rotated off the board each year. CAB meetings are held quarterly at MSPR’s studios and are open to the public.
Stroke rehab at SOMC
PORTSMOUTH The Rehab Care Unit at Southern Ohio Medical Center will offer a stroke rehab in-service for interested patients, family members, and community members from 5 to 6 p.m. March 20 at the Christ Community Church in Portsmouth.

John Fedde, 33, of Ashland, one year for receiving stolen property.
William Hutchinson, 30, of Russell, 7 1/2 years for drug trafficking.
LeRhonda Moton, 34, of Russell, 10 years for drug trafficking.
Leron Taylor, 33, of Ashland, three years for drug possession.
Jessica Vanatter, 35, of Ashland, six years for drug trafficking.
Jae Fought, 35, of Albin, Ind., three years for drug possession.
Jeremiah Johnson, no age listed, 13 years for manufacturing methamphetamine.
Eric Justice, 32, of Ashland, three years for theft.
Christopher Barnett, 47, of Catlettsburg, five years for sexual abuse.
