ASHLAND —
The Northeast Kentucky Chapter of the American Red Cross annual fundraiser will be March 1, said Vicki James, the chapter’s executive director.
For the third year, the fundraiser is being boosted by the raffle of two tickets to the University of Kentucky basketball game against Vanderbilt on Feb. 25.
“Like last year, a local donor has provided two excellent tickets to a UK basketball game,” said Jeff Lyons, raffle chairman and DESCO Credit Union vice president.
“We are conducting an ‘early bird’ drawing for these two tickets,” Lyons said.
“In order to encourage early purchases, anyone who pays in full for a fundraiser ticket by 4 p.m. Feb. 17 will be eligible for the ‘early bird’ drawing.”
Raffle tickets are available from board members and from the local Red Cross office at 4201 Blackburn Ave.
More information is available from the office or by calling (606) 325-1626. Only 375 tickets will be sold.
The fundraiser is a reverse auction for $10,000. In addition, every 20th ticket drawn will win $100. It will be at the Ashland Elks Lodge, with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30. A $100 donation provides dinner for two at the event, plus the chance at the $10,000 “pot.”
The “early bird” drawing will take place live and on the air at 5 p.m. Feb. 17 in the WLGC Radio studio, Lyons said.
“We appreciate the support of WLGC Radio, its general manager and ‘Afternoon Train Wreck’ host Scott Martin,” said Lyons.
“We think, like last year, lots of Wildcat fans who have purchased tickets will be listening to the program to hear who wins the tickets.”
Jim Williams, chairman of the board of directors, said the fundraiser is a key event that enables the chapter to support Red Cross activities in Boyd, Carter, Greenup, Lawrence and Lewis counties, including health and safety training, disaster assistance, emergency assistance to military members and blood drives.
