GRAYSON —
A wallet with identification was located near the spot at Grayson Lake where skeletal human remains were discovered Sunday night, Kentucky State Police at Ashland said Tuesday.
However, the KSP said positive identification of the remains was still pending an examination by the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, where the bones were sent after being recovered about 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
A search of the area near the remains turned up the wallet, which, in addition to ID, contained “other credentials,” the KSP said.
The remains were found by hikers in a secluded area of the lake near Clifty Creek, the KSP said.
Depending on the state of the remains, identification could take a few days or several months, according to Trooper Michael Murriell, public affairs officer for the Ashland post.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, the Grayson Volunteer Fire Department and the Carter County Coroner’s Office also responded and assisted with recovery of the remains.
Additional details will be released as they become available, the KSP said.
Detective Ben Cramer is the investigating officer.
