3 area parks declared ‘storm ready’

OLIVE HILL — Three more Kentucky State Parks have been designated as being “StormReady” by the National Weather Service, bringing the total to eight state parks that have worked with the service to prepare for severe weather, officials announced today.

The new parks are Carter Caves State Resort Park, Greenbo Lake State Resort Park and Grayson Lake State Park. They join Dale Hollow, Lake Cumberland, Jenny Wiley, Buckhorn Lake, and Natural Bridge state resort parks. These are among the first state parks in the country to be designated as StormReady.

The announcement was made Wednesday at Carter Caves State Resort Park near Olive Hill by the weather service and park officials.

“We’re proud that Kentucky State Parks have been pro-active in seeking this National Weather Service designation for weather safety,” said Parks Commissioner Elaine Walker. “We believe this helps safeguard our guests and our employees during bad weather.”

Walker was joined by Sen. Robin Webb of Grayson, Carter County Judge-Executive Charles Wallace.
