Tax-Aide begins Monday

AARP program will be at various locations


Ashland — The AARP will offer free federal and state tax preparation assistance in the area for low- and middle-income taxpayers this year as it has for more than 20 years.

The Tax-Aide program will begin Monday and continue through April 15 at various locations, including:

Ashland Town Center — Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

St. Paul Lutheran Church — Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Boyd County Public Library, Summit branch — Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lawrence County Public Library — Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Flatwoods City Building — Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Greenup County Public Library, Flatwoods branch — Mondays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Greenup County Public Library, main branch — Mondays and Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Greenup County Public Library, McKell branch — Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Carter County Senior Center — Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Floyd County Public Library — Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Pikeville Senior Center — Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Those using the service are asked to bring Social Security cards or other official documentation for themselves and all dependents, as well as a copy of last year’s income tax returns, W-2 forms from each employer, unemployment compensation statements, SSA-1099 forms if paid Social Security benefits and all 1099 forms showing interest and/or dividends and documentation showing the original purchase price of sold assets.

Also bring 1099R forms if receiving a pension or annuity, forms showing federal income tax paid, child-care provider information including employer ID and Social Security number, receipts or canceled checks if itemizing deductions and the current year’s tax forms and preparation booklet.

Since Tax-Aide began in 1968, the program has helped more than 40 million taxpayers file their returns.

Tax counselors are trained and must pass an Internal Revenue Service test. Last year, counselors in the Ashland district helped file more than 2,700 state and federal tax returns.
