CATLETTSBURG —
The Ashland-Boyd County Health Department was notified of a possible Tuberculosis case in the Boyd County Detention Center.
Late Thursday afternoon, lab results confirmed that the inmate was positive for Tuberculosis (TB). The case is now in isolation and being provided care for TB.
During the investigation, it was discovered that staff at the jail, law enforcement officials and inmates may have been exposed to the ill individual. These individuals are being provided TB skin tests to test for illness. If illness is discovered, the individuals will be treated. There was no risk to the general public from this case.
According to CDC, 4 to 6 prcent of TB cases reported in the United States occur among people incarcerated at the time of diagnosis. The incarcerated population contains a high proportion of people a greater risk for TB than the overall population.
Risk factors contributing to the high rate of TB in correctional facilities include: physical structure of correctional facilities that can include close living quarters and high rates of other chronic illnesses such as HIV and Hepatitis C.

59-year-old accused of stealing at Raceland graduation
A 59-year-old Greenup County man is accused of stealing from students during Raceland-Worthington High School’s graduation on Tuesday night.
During the graduation ceremony, Doran O’Neal of Raceland stole about $40 and an iPhone from purses placed in a side room, according to the Raceland Police Department. Officers said the theft was captured on surveillance video and they were able to identify O’Neal.
Raceland Police Chief Don Sammons said the graduation was finished around 9 p.m. and O’Neal was in custody before 10 p.m. -

Cadets honor veterans by placing flags
