Jobless rate down in 98 counties

FRANKFORT — Kentucky’s jobless rate has fallen in 98 counties over the last year.

A statement from the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training on Thursday says the unemployment rate fell between August 2011 and August 2012. In that time period, 20 counties saw an increase in unemployment and two counties did not see a change.

Oldham County had the lowest unemployment rate at 6.5. Other counties with a jobless rate of under 7 percent included Franklin, Scott, Union, Fayette, Boone, Jessamine and Madison.

Meanwhile, Fulton County had the state’s highest unemployment rate at 16.7 percent. Others with high rates include Magoffin County at 16.6 percent, Harlan and Leslie counties at 14.3 percent each and Letcher County at 14 percent.
