FRANKFORT —
Greenup County families who have maintained their farms for the last 100 years will be honored at a special ceremony this fall. Rep. Tanya Pullin is seeking information on all farms in Greenup County that have been passed down for 100 years or more so that all deserving families can be recognized.
“Family farms have faced a number of obstacles over the last century, from the Depression to shrinking commodity prices,” Pullin said. “Those who have passed down that love of the land from generation to generation command our respect and gratitude, and this is a wonderful way to celebrate Greenup Countians who have held fast to their legacy and their farms over the last 100 years.”
The event, scheduled for this fall, will celebrate Greenup County’s agricultural heritage and the contributions of the area’s many farms to the local economy.
“Our community is strong because of our family farms and the money they generate for our local economy,” Pullin added.
Pullin is asking interested families — or those who know someone who merits the honor — to contact her by Sept. 1 so the proper awards can be designed.
“We need the community’s help,” she said. “The people who have worked their family farm for 100 years are the same folks who shun the spotlight, even though they deserve it. I hope their neighbors and relatives will contact me so we can honor them.”
Pullin can be contacted at (606) 932-2505, or tanya.pullin@lrc.ky.gov.
