Two Alaskans and a man from North Carolina were arrested Monday night after they were caught with a vehicle a West Virginia bank had reported stolen.
Deputies also found burglary tools in the vehicle, the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department said.
According to a news release from the department, deputies received a report of suspicious circumstances at the Shell/McDonald’s on Ky. 180 near the Interstate 64 interchange about 11:30 p.m. Monday.
Upon arriving, deputies learned from witnesses that two men and a woman had abandoned a red 1996 Ford pickup with West Virginia tags on the parking lot of the business. A computer check of the vehicle’s license number revealed it was company vehicle belonging to the BB&T Bank location on Summers Street in Charleston, and that it had been reported stolen.
The vehicle was impounded, a search of the area was launched and the suspects were found a short distance away at the Flying J on Ky. 180. The three confessed to having stolen the truck and were placed under arrest, the department said.
William E. Selfridge, 24, and Shawney M. Husk, 18, both of Kenai, Alaska, and Kenneth L. Eckert, 27, of Raleigh, N.C., were lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center, charged with receiving stolen property, the department said. Selfridge and Eckert also were charged with possession of burglary tools.
The three remained in custody Tuesday, according to the jail’s website.
