ASHLAND —
The Jesse Stuart Foundation will host an open house Aug. 10 to celebrate the 106th birthday of the late author and Kentucky Poet Laureate.
The event is from 1 to 6 p.m. at the foundation’s headquarters at 1645 Winchester Ave. and features the author of a currently popular book about the Hatfield and McCoy feud. Admission is free.
Open house activities include special sales of vintage linens and glassware; door prizes; refreshments; live performances of traditional Appalachian music performed by JSF board members Carl and Buzzy Leming; and multi-author book signings. Authors include:

Morgan man pleads guilty to assault
A Morgan County man entered a guilty plea in Morgan Circuit Court on Wednesday to second-degree assault charges in connection with the injuries he inflicted upon his wife in April 2011 at their home in Ezel, according to the office of Attorney General Jack Conway and his office of special prosecutions.
