Foundation open house marks writer's 106th birthday

ASHLAND — The Jesse Stuart Foundation will host an open house Aug. 10 to celebrate the 106th birthday of the late author and Kentucky Poet Laureate.

The event is from 1 to 6 p.m. at the foundation’s headquarters at 1645 Winchester Ave. and features the author of a currently popular book about the Hatfield and McCoy feud. Admission is free.

Open house activities include special sales of vintage linens and glassware; door prizes; refreshments; live performances of traditional Appalachian music performed by JSF board members Carl and Buzzy Leming; and multi-author book signings. Authors include:

‰F. Keith Davis, “The Feuding Hatfields & McCoys” (with Dr. Coleman C. Hatfield, Woodland Press).

‰Jack D. Ellis, “Missing Christmas: My Life in the Depression & WWII;” “Kentucky Memories: Reflections of Rowan County 1856-2006;” “Alpha M. Two authors will discuss their forthcoming books to be published by the Jesse Stuart Foundation in the fall: Lewis Nicholls, “A History of Greenup County, Kentucky” and”Sam Piatt, Men of Valor: WWII Veterans from Southern Ohio” and “Eastern Kentucky Tell Their Combat Stories.”
