Federal drug charges

Two men will be arraigned in oxycodone case

ASHLAND — Two men indicted earlier this month by a federal grand jury for allegedly distributing oxycodone in Boyd and Fleming counties are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in U.S. District Court.

Jarrod D. Taylor and Robert W. “West” Taylor were named in a four-count indictment returned July 5.

The indictment alleges that between May 2008 and Dec. 1 of last year, the two men “did conspire together with others” to distribute and possess with intent to distribute pills containing oxycodone, and laundered the money they made doing so.

The two also are accused of distributing oxycodone in Fleming County on two separate dates in October.

The government is also seeking forfeiture of a piece of property in Wallingford it alleges was used to commit or facilitate the violations, as well as a $250,000 monetary judgment, which prosecutors say represents the proceeds obtained by Jarrod Taylor as the result of his crimes.

The relationship between the Taylors isn’t spelled out in court documents. Their ages and addresses were not immediately available.

Both men could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and three years of supervised release and fined up to $1 million if they are convicted. However, application of federal sentencing guidelines would likely result in them receiving lesser penalties.

The Taylors are scheduled to be arraigned before Magistrate Judge Edward B. Atkins.

A grand jury indictment is a formal accusation of a crime and does not establish guilt.
