ASHLAND —
The discovery of an apparent meth lab in the Vincent Apartments has led to drug charges for two of its residents, according to Ashland police.
Thomas E. McGrew, 39, and Terry Stephens, 49, were charged Friday after police found methamphetamine manufacturing supplies in the apartment building on Winchester Avenue.
A tip had sent detectives to an apartment in the building along with state probation and parole officers, according to police.
When they got there, they searched the apartment and found the meth supplies and arrested McGrew. They charged him with a parole violation and manufacturing methamphetamine and called Kentucky State Police to remove the hazardous meth-making materials.
While they were waiting, police Detective Brian Clark found Stephens in an adjacent apartment and arrested him on a warrant issued during a previous investigation.
Police charged him with unlawful possession of methamphetamine precursors.
The two were taken to the Boyd County Detention Center.
Small makeshift meth labs are considered dangerous because of the toxic and corrosive chemicals used in the process. Meth-making materials also can cause explosions and fires and release toxic fumes.
