After years of heated discussion and debate, the Carter County Library will officially open in two cities today.

The Grayson and Olive Hill branches of the library will officially open at 10 a.m., providing public access to computers, a collection of DVDs, as well as bestsellers and books of interest to all age ranges until 6 p.m.

Jussie Minor, Carter County Public Library District executive director, explained the Olive Hill location at 115 Mills St., beside the Adult Learning Center, has been remodeled and updated, while the Grayson facility at 1446 N. State Hwy. 1 and 7 near the A-A Highway has been set up from the ground up.

“The best thing to do is come down and see what we have to offer,” said Minor while discussing the young library system’s resources. Future resources already under development include wireless Internet access, current copies of magazines and copy/print/fax services.

“We are still a work in progress but think that the public will be very pleased with what they find at both locations,” Minor said. “I can say, on behalf of myself, that I am very proud of all the hard work and support that we have seen here in Carter County. We had a lot of work to do that was extremely time consuming. We are all very excited to open the doors and allow the public to rejoice in this historic event.”

Today’s hours are for the opening only, Minor said, and regular library hours will be announced soon. A ribbon cutting is also being planned for both facilities.
