Drug roundup in Greenup nets 21

Officials say sweep is ongoing


Greenup — Drug detectives arrested 21 on Wednesday in a roundup in Greenup County.

Detectives with the FADE Drug Task Force along with officers from the Grayson, Flatwoods, Russell, Raceland, Wurtland, Greenup and Vanceburg police departments and Carter County Sheriff’s Department made the arrests for illegal drug trafficking.

Almost 70 arrest warrants have been issued as the sweep continues to round up suspects. The arrests are the result of undercover drug investigations conducted by FADE in Greenup County during the past few months.

Arrested on charges of first-class drug trafficking were:

James Wright of Greenup, Ronald Bentley of South Shore, James “Chris” Morris of Flatwoods, Chase Downs of Flatwoods, John Music of Flatwoods, Gabriel Poplin of Greenup, Rexford Poplin of Greenup, Keith R. Rose of Wurtland, Sarah Wilburn of Greenup, Tricia Smith of Flatwoods, Katherine “Katie” Horn of Greenup, Greg Cole of Vanceburg, Cassie Duncan of Vanceburg, Crystal Moore of Flatwoods, James Stephens of Greenup, Melissa Nickels of Greenup, Elmer Holbert of South Shore, Madara McPeek of Raceland and Brandon Stephenson of Flatwoods (two counts).

Dwayne Haywood of Russell was arrested and charged with second-class drug trafficking.

FADE operates in Greenup , Carter and Lewis Counties and is made up of officers from the Flatwoods, Russell, Raceland, Vanceburg and Grayson police departments and the Carter sheriff’s office.
