ASHLAND —
Undercover buys resulted in a pair of drug arrests by the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday.
The first occurred shortly before 8 p.m. in the 600 block of Westview Drive, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department. Michael J. “Mick” Mayo, 56, was arrested after deputies served a search warrant obtained as a result of Mayo allegedly selling 10 oxycodone tablets to an informant.
The search turned up additional pills and cash, including money used for the controlled buy, the sheriff’s department said.
Mayo has a prior conviction for cocaine trafficking and is believed to be part of a larger drug-trafficking conspiracy, according to the sheriff’s department. He was lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center, charged with first-degree drug trafficking.
Several hours later, deputies arrested James D. Daniels Jr., 50, at his home in the 4700 block of Boyd Street in Ashland after executing a search warrant there. The warrant stemmed from a controlled purchase of oxycodone. The search turned up narcotics, drug paraphernalia and cash, the sheriff’s department said.
Daniels also was lodged in the BCDC on a first-degree trafficking charge.

59-year-old accused of stealing at Raceland graduation
A 59-year-old Greenup County man is accused of stealing from students during Raceland-Worthington High School’s graduation on Tuesday night.
During the graduation ceremony, Doran O’Neal of Raceland stole about $40 and an iPhone from purses placed in a side room, according to the Raceland Police Department. Officers said the theft was captured on surveillance video and they were able to identify O’Neal.
Raceland Police Chief Don Sammons said the graduation was finished around 9 p.m. and O’Neal was in custody before 10 p.m. -
