SUMMIT — An Ashland man has been arrested in connection with an August burglary in which a safe was stolen from a Boyd County pizza parlor.
Kirby J. Ramey, 49, was charged with third-degree burglary in the Aug. 15 break-in at Giovanni’s on U.S. 60 at Summit, according to the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department.
The sheriff’s department had received an anonymous tip that Ramey was the man responsible for the burglary and took him into custody late Saturday night, Deputy Steve Lake said.
Following his arrest, Ramey led deputies to a location just outside of Ironton, where the stolen safe was recovered from the Ohio River, Lake said.
Deputies were assisted in making the recovery by Lawrence County, Ohio, authorities and the Ashland Fire Department.
Ramey was lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center, where he was being held without bond on Monday.
Additional arrests are anticipated, Lake said.
The Giovanni’s burglary, which occurred about 4 a.m., was recorded by the business’ security cameras. The burglar gained entrance to the building by removing a pane of glass from the rear window and crawling through the opening.
Once inside, the suspect made his way to the office, where he rummaged around in search of the safe.
The burglar then left the restaurant and returned about 20 minutes later through the back door, which he had apparently unlocked when he was in the building the previous time.
The suspect then took the safe, which contained an undetermined amount of cash, out the back door.
