Veterans program slated at Russell
RUSSELL - Purple Heart recipient Charlie Moore will be the guest speaker at Wednesday’s Veterans Day ceremony in the Russell High School gymnasium.
A presentation will honor Russell graduate and fallen U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Roger “Alvin” Akers. Attendees should arrive by 1:15 p.m., and the program will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Veterans program set at McKell Middle
SOUTH SHORE - McKell Middle School will have a Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the gym.
Missionaires to speak at church
ASHLAND - Vaughn and Jennifer Thomas, members of Kilgore United Methodist Church in Rush and missionaries to Indonesia, will speak at 6 p.m. today to a meeting of United Methodist Women at South Ashland United Methodist Church on 29th Street.
The Thomases, parents of four children all born in the mission field, were missionaries in Vietnam for many years. They have missionaries in Indonesia in recent years.
MSU makes Cabinet changes
MOREHEAD - Morehead State University President Wayne D. Andrews has named Beth Patrick, vice president for planning and budgets, as the university’s first chief of staff.
The assignment comes as MSU implements a new administrative structure.
Patrick’s new duties will include liaison with community, business and government; institutional, board of regents and public affairs issues; and coordinating the Cabinet with strategic development.
She will also continue her present position.
Michael R. Walters, vice president for administration and fiscal services, will take over Patrick’s technology duties.
Man injured in accident
ASHLAND - An Ashland man was injured Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident on 13th Street.
Anthony Groves was flown to a hospital for treatment, according to city police.
His vehicle rear-ended one driven by Patricia McKeon, also of Ashland, near Cherokee Avenue at 3:30 p.m., police reported.
Police shut down 13th Street while paramedics treated Groves.
