Carter candidates begin to file for the next elections

By TIM PRESTON

GRAYSON — There has been “some activity” about the next round of elections in Carter County, according to County Clerk Mike Johnston, who has already filed his own paperwork to seek re-election.

Johnston said interest in the county jailer’s seat seems to be leading the pack of potential candidates, with four picking up their application forms to campaign for the job.

Of those four, Johnston said current District 1 Magistrate Lovell Carper is the only person who has returned the completed paperwork to the clerk’s office.

Three have picked up their forms to seek election in the District 3 magistrate’s race, Johnston reported Thursday. Ronnie Greenhill of Hitchins is the only person who has filed the completed forms, Johnston said.

Only one has been to the clerk’s office seeking paperwork to file as a candidate for the county’s constable position, Johnston said, although that person has not returned the completed forms.

One has also obtained the forms to file as a candidate for Carter County judge-executive, but has not filed the paperwork, Johnston said,

Candidates for each of Carter County’s elected offices, as well as state representative and state senator, have until 4 p.m. Jan. 26 to file forms and declare their candidacy, Johnston said.
