Carter shooting victim ID’d

GRAYSON - Authorities have released the name of a Carter County man found shot to death in his home on Monday.

The body of Calvin D. Fannin, 51, was in his residence on North Anglin Branch, off Ky. 1 north of Grayson, Kentucky State Police at Ashland said.

Fannin apparently died of gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Carter County Coroner George Sparks.

Fannin’s body was taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, where an autopsy was scheduled to be performed today.

Detective Michael Murriell is investigating.



Jazz ensemble coming to Raceland

RACELAND - The River Cities Jazz Ensemble will presenting its Christmas show at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at the John P. Stephens Cultural Arts Center at Raceland-Worthington High School.

The free concert is sponsored by the CAC and the American Federation of Musicians Performance Trust Fund.

The group is made up of former military musicians, professional musicians and music educators. It is dedicated to keeping the Big Band music of the 1940s alive.

The group, based in Huntington, was started two years ago. The show will feature songs of the era, Christmas standards and classic tunes.



Skateboarders to meet Thursday

GRAYSON - The Carter County Skateboarding Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Church of Christ Family Life Center at Third and Pomeroy streets. Plans will be finalized for a Saturday trip to Ollie’s indoor skate park in Florence.

Church to have camp meeting

ASHLAND - Route 5 Christian Baptist Church will have its first Charles Williams Memorial Camp Meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Calvin Ray Evans and Brian Baer will speak and Mike Blanton and Evidence will sing.

VFW auxiliary will meet today

IRONTON - VFW Post 8850’s Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the post. Members are asked to bring razors and shaving cream for the VA Medical Center. Dues for next year may be mailed to the auxiliary at 3026 S. Third St., Ironton, OH 45638 or paid at the post.
