Peanut butter to be collected

People attending Tuesday evening’s annual Christmas Parade in downtown Ashland are being encouraged to bring a jar of peanut butter to help battle hunger.
“Santa’s Helpers” will be walking alongside the Magic 97.9 FM van and collecting the peanut butter for contribution to River Cities Harvest and area food pantries.
Anyone who wants to contribute peanut butter, but doesn’t plan to attend the parade, can make donations at the radio studio, 919 5th Ave., Huntington or at River Cities Harvest warehouse, 2516 Carter Ave., Ashland.

Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital’s Sleep Lab is hosting a support group for individuals with sleep apnea.
The free A.W.A.K.E (awake, well and keeping energetic) event takes place Dec. 4 from noon to 2 p.m. at Bellefonte Centre.
The event is for individuals who have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and their families. Kristi Martin, respiratory therapist with a specialization in home medical equipment, will be the featured speaker.
Her presentation will focus on the usage and maintenance of equipment utilized by sleep apnea patients. Lunch will be provided by We Care Medical Equipment Company and a special Christmas gift will be given to attendees. The group is designed as a support for persons that have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and use durable medical equipment at home for the disorder.

Meeting change made in Russell
RUSSELL
The Russell Board of Education’s regular meeting scheduled for Monday has been canceled.
The board will meet instead in two special sessions Nov. 30. The first session at 6 p.m. will be a working session with the Russell-McDowell Intermediate School council and the second, at 7 p.m., will be the monthly meeting.
Both sessions will be held at Russell-McDowell.
Carter culvert work begins today
FLEMINGSBURG
Kentucky Department of Highways crews will install a new drainage culvert underneath Ky. 773 in Carter County beginning today.
Work will take place on Ky. 773 about halfway between Hitchins and the Lawrence County line.
During work hours, approximately 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the roadway will be temporarily closed to through traffic at the work site. Motorists may detour via local routes.
Once installation work is finished the new cross drain will improve highway safety by keeping water off the roadway and allowing for better drainage in the surrounding area.
