OLIVE HILL — The musical heritage of the Christmas holiday will be celebrated at the old Olive Hill High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Dec. 11 during the second “Christmas On the Hill” event.
The musical celebration presented by the Olive Hill Historical Society includes preferred seating with a light supper for $25 per person, or bleacher seating for the performance at only $10 per person.
Thursday performance will focus on a “Traditional Christmas,” with performances by Bronson Bush singing “Winter Wonderland” and “Christmas in Our Village” as well as “O Holy Night,” the East Carter High School Choir singing multiple holiday musical selections, Rusty Bird’s rendition of “The Little Drummer Boy” and “White Christmas,” as well as “What Child Is This?” and “Silver Bells,” Elizabeth Stamper singing “Silent Night,” Ars Nova performing several holiday song selections, the Bate Middle School Jazz Band’s arrangements of “Frosty,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and “Deckin’ the Halls,” Angela Johnson singing “Don’t Save It All For Christmas Day,” and “Where Are You Christmas?”, Paul Johnson Tierney’s rendition of “Manger Throne” “Season of the Lord” and “The Christmas Song,” Madison Harris singing “Jesus Christ,” and “The Hill” Singers performing “Christmas on the Hill.”
The Dec. 11 event is being billed as a “Country Christmas,” with musical performances by Lexington Avenue Quartet singing “Jesus, What a Wonderful Child,” “Mary Was the First One to Carry the Gospel” and “It’s Still the Greatest Story Ever Told.” Pam Duncan will sing “Mary, Did You Know?”, “There’s a New Kid in Town,” and “Born To Die.” Bronson Bush will sing “Spirit You Are Here,” “The Christmas Song,” “Christmas in Dixie” and “Here Comes Santa Claus,” while Angie Johnson will sing “Go Tell, “The First Noel” and “Where Are You Christmas?” Sasha Collette and Friends will play and sing “Blue Christmas,” “Mele Kalikimaka,” “Santa Baby” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Members of Dusty Valley Grass will bring local flavor to the stage with their rendition of Tom T. Hall’s “The Fastest Rabbit Dog in Carter County,” in addition to Bill Monroe’s “The Kentucky Waltz” and “Big Sandy Queen.” Jennifer Harris will sing “Rose of Bethlehem,” as well as “Hope Is Born Again” and “Jesus Christ” with vocal support from Madison Harris.
“The Hill” Singers will again perform “Christmas on the Hill” and the evening will conclude with the Lexington Avenue Quartet’s rendition of the medley “Christmas Glory.”
