Man indicted in deaths of 2 Carter cyclists

Brian K. Robinette faces charges following incident at Cave Run

Morehead — A Menifee County man has been indicted on felony charges in connection with a collision near Cave Run Lake last summer that killed two motorcyclists from Carter County.

A Rowan County grand jury on Tuesday handed up an indictment charging Brian K. Robinette, 30, of Wellington, with two counts of second-degree manslaughter and one count of first-degree wanton endangerment.

Robinette could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison if he is convicted on all three charges.

Robinette is accused in an Aug. 7 accident that claimed the lives of Bruce R. Miller, 64, and William Walker, 62, both of Grayson.

According to Kentucky State Police at Morehead, Miller and Walker were riding eastbound on Ky. 1274, Miller on a 1998 Ducati and Walker on a 2008 BMW. Robinette was traveling westbound.

Robinette’s 1991 Chevrolet Camaro dropped off the right-hand side of the road, the KSP said. Robinette over-corrected and locked up the brakes, causing the car to skid into the eastbound lane and strike the two motorcyclists head-on.

Police later determined that alcohol was a factor in the accident, which occurred at 3:45 p.m.

Miller died at University of Kentucky Hospital shortly after the collision. Walker, who was also flown to UK following the accident, died the following morning.

Robinette, who wasn’t injured in the collision, was arrested Tuesday and lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center.
