GREENUP —
Public health officials in Greenup County working to update a plan to improve public health are encouraging more stakeholders to attend this week’s shortened Community Needs Assessment forum.
The Greenup County Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) will take place on Friday at Advance United Methodist Church in Flatwoods from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Registration and breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m. and lunch will be served around 11:30.
The assessment, which will be led by the Kentucky and Appalachia Public Health Training Center, had been scheduled to take place until 4 p.m.
“This meeting will be shorter, better and more visual,” said Eve Greene, the MAPP coordinator. “Although the agenda has changed, the goal of a healthy Greenup County is the same,” she added.
Greenup health officials first mapped out a plan using an assessment forum three years ago, and are now working to update that plan. Participants from the health department, local hospitals, area churches, schools, the judicial system, police, fire, emergency medical services, mental health and counseling providers, vocational rehabilitation, local and county government officials, home health providers, food services, wellness centers, septic installers and anyone else who is involved with public health are needed to participate.
Greene said the forum will help the agency to identify areas where improvements and efficiencies can be made to the system of public health delivery. Data gathered at the meeting will be used to create a strategic Health Improvement Plan that be used over the next several years. Officials say they hope the plan will help to pinpoint areas of public health that need attention and can be used to further facilitate working partnerships between agencies serving the community.
To register to attend the MAPP meeting, contact the Greenup County Health Department at (606) 473-9838.
