Centenary to host prayer breakfast
ASHLAND
Centenary United Methodist Church, 2901 Winchester Ave., will host the August Community Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
For the past 14 years, the Community Prayer Breakfast has been on the second Tuesday of each month with different churches hosting the gatherings and serving a free breakfast.
Following the meal, there will be a brief devotion led by the host pastor and special music. Then there will be a time of individual and group prayer at each table. The breakfast usually ends well before 9 a.m. The Rev. Troy Poff is pastor of Centenary. Parking is in the rear of the church, at 29th Street and Greenup Avenue.
No reservations are needed to attend the breakfast. While the meals are free, a faith offering is taken with all proceeds going to the Ashland Community Kitchen, which serves free lunches weekdays and dinners on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at The Neighbhorhood, at 25th Street and Carter Avenue.
Church having missions night
ASHLAND
Unity Baptist Church will have an “Evening of Missions” a 7 p.m. on Sunday.
There will be singing by Zach Roberts and Carrie Rawlins followed by an exhibit of paintings and photography of Uganda. The children of the church also made jewelry, bracelets and paintings that are available for purchase.
Donations from the event, which is free, will benefit the Penne Paris School in Uganda.
The paintings and photographs, along with snacks, will be available in the Family Life Center following the concert.
The church is located at 2320 29th Street in Ashland.
Laborfest event planned in park
ASHLAND
The entertainment for Laborfest in Central Park on Labor Day (Sept. 3) has been set.
John Thornsberry, Cher Nicole and Stephen Salyers will be providing the music.
A free ice cream social, door prizes and free inflatables will be part of the festivities, which begin at 3 p.m. at the park bandstand.
Blazer blitz and schedule pickup
ASHLAND
Paul Blazer High School’s annual Back-to-School Blitz for students and their parents will be at the following dates and times:
Tuesday: 9 a.m. – 1p.m.
Wednesday: 11a.m. – 2 p.m.
Thursday: 3 – 6 p.m.
During the blitz parents will complete all required paperwork for their children for the school year, pay $40 textbook rental fee and collect their child’s schedule. The process takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and will take place in Building 1.
Also, freshman and new student orientation will take place Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. This event is for students and parents and will last approximately one hour.

APD investigating impersonation case
Police are investigating a reported incident of a juvenile impersonating a peace officer, which occurred on Monday just before 7 p.m. at a public place in the 700 block of Central Avenue. A juvenile female told police that a juvenile male dressed like a police officer approached her and stated he was working under the authority of the Ashland Police Department and had a warrant for her arrest.
