MELINDA HESTER: Couponing can make difference for others

ASHLAND — This is the most fun with your girlfriends, or a group of little girls from your couponing class, that you can imagine.

We truly had so much fun in CVS, Kroger and Walmart during class. Class is over now, and I already miss them. But we have arranged to see each other in the stores.

These girls are already helping others with their couponing  by donating and meeting family member’s needs. I think that, all in all, we are put here to help each other.

I’ve been asked by Ashland Area Presbyterian Ministries, which partners with CAReS, to help spread the word they need cleaning supplies and hygiene items. If you would like to donate items you can easily park in the alley behind the Presbyterian Church on Judd Plaza and take your donation to the ground-floor glass door where the intercom is located.

Also, Westwood Christian Church needs non-perishable food items. They feed more than 60 families a month. Please call Lisa Jackson at (606) 325-1998 and leave a message. She will set up a time for you to drop off donations.

This is what it’s all about: feeding our families and taking care of others. Be kind to couponers. We donate to the community. This is how we afford to do it.

Right now, cleaning products are beginning to show up, as fall cleaning starts. Everything in its season. Also, a new couponing and frugal living class at ACTC will begin in September. This is for men and women.

Jack’s Cardinal Market

Jack wanted me to mention he has Bonimo Taffy. This is an old product from our childhood in the 1960’s. Also, he has the cinnamon suckers that were known as “Square Shooters” back in the day. Jack’s is a treasure trove of childhood memories.

LeeAnn from my class called Walmart about Price Match and asked if they would match a buy one get one free ad from CVS. Her answer was that they will not match an ad that involves a store card from any store.

They do match a direct on price, but not buy one get one frees. They do not match a store bucks price. They are now calling it “Ad Match” instead of Price Match.

‰The Hunger Games DVD comes out on Aug. 18 It will be $19.96

Gasoline price watch

If the price of gas goes to $4 a gallon, then you will surely see higher prices in the store in about three weeks after the $4 mark. Gasoline is projected to raise to as much as $4.25 a gallon. No better time to become a couponer.

When the price of fuel hits the trucking companies, the price of product has to rise. This is when a stockpile becomes your new best friend.
