Carter man faces sex abuse charges
OLIVE HILL - A Carter County man was charged with two counts of sexual abuse involving two juvenille females at a foster home on Grahn Road.
James M. Layne, 29, of Olive Hill, was arrested and lodged in the Carter County Detention Center.
Kentucky State Police in Ashland received a complaint of sexual abuse on Oct. 16. During the course of the investigation it was determined sexual intercourse had occurred between Layne and two juvenile females, ages 14 and 15. At the time of contact, both juveniles were in the care of Layne.
Cancer fundraiser will be Saturday
ARGILLITE - The Little Sandy Volunteer Fire Department will host a dinner and auction to benefit Tim Hannah, who is battling cancer, from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Ky. 1 fire station.

Blood drive set at Ashland station
ASHLAND - The Northeast Kentucky American Red Cross will have a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Central Fire Station at 11th Street and Carter Avenue.
Other drives scheduled in November are:
‰Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday;
‰Rose Hill Christian School, 2 to 7 p.m. Nov. 9;
‰King’s Daughters Medical Center, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 14;
‰KDMC Office Park at 835 Central Ave., noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 19; and
‰Ashland Community and Technical College, College Drive Campus, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 27.
Big Sandy district advisory lifted
CATLETTSBURG - A boil advisory in the Big Sandy Water District has been lifted.
The advisory covered Callahan Road, Alley Branch, Campbells Branch, Lakewood Village, Spurlock Hill, Silver Run, Ky. 854 from Rush Hill to U.S. 60, U.S. 60 from Johnson’s Nursery to Cribbs Hill, Ky. 1654 and all side roads.
Russell ROTC will honor veterans
RUSSELL - The Russell High School Air Force ROTC will host a Veterans Day ceremony to honor local veterans at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Russell High School gymnasium. Veterans are asked to arrive no later than 1:15 p.m.

Fire temporarily closes Ky. 1
ARGILLITE - An abandoned house that caught fire along Ky. 1 on Tuesday morning temporarily closed access to Greenbo Lake State Resort Park as firefighters battling the blaze blocked the roadway.
The house at 8236 Ky. 1 caught fire just before noon. Firefighters from the Little Sandy Volunteer Fire Department contained and eventually extinguished the blaze.
