GRAYSON —
Tommy Carroll, known to many around town as “The Bicycle Man,” always had an encouraging word for the people of Grayson.
Grayson Mayor George Steele said Carroll was a familiar face around the city, and a friend to young and old alike who made his daily rounds visiting local business owners. He was known to trade bicycles every few years, Steele said, noting his bicycle went everywhere with him.
“He’d push it for a while and he’d ride it for a while,” the mayor said with a familiar chuckle. “He was always around Grayson at the businesses talking to people, and there were many times when I’d see him out in the rain or snow and I’d give him a ride and put his bicycle in the back of my truck.”
Steele said Carroll was the brother of another Grayson mayor, Clifford Carroll, as well as a well-known barber, George Carroll.
“He was one of those special people who will be missed. He always waved and was encouraging and uplifting,” he said. “He was one of those hometown characters. Oh, he was a talker and always encouraging me in my office in the city. He would always remind me if he’d found a pothole he wanted me to fix.”
Ernest T. “Tommy” Carroll, 84, of Grayson, passed away Feb. 10. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East, where burial will follow.

59-year-old accused of stealing at Raceland graduation
A 59-year-old Greenup County man is accused of stealing from students during Raceland-Worthington High School’s graduation on Tuesday night.
During the graduation ceremony, Doran O’Neal of Raceland stole about $40 and an iPhone from purses placed in a side room, according to the Raceland Police Department. Officers said the theft was captured on surveillance video and they were able to identify O’Neal.
Raceland Police Chief Don Sammons said the graduation was finished around 9 p.m. and O’Neal was in custody before 10 p.m. -

Cadets honor veterans by placing flags
On their final full day of school for the year, nearly 40 Russell High School students decided they could best spend their time placing American flags upon the graves of local veterans buried at Rose Hill Cemetery.
