Collision kills woman

19-year-old’s vehicle struck by loaded coal truck

DURBIN — A 19-year-old Catlettsburg woman was killed Friday when her car was struck by a loaded coal truck on U.S. 23.

Brittany Harman was pronounced dead at the accident scene by Boyd County Deputy Coroner Dr. Ralph Beadle.

The collision occurred about 12:15 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 23 and Durbin Road. According to the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department, Harman pulled from Durbin Road across the southbound lanes of U.S. 23 and into the northbound lanes.

In so doing, Harman pulled into the path of a 201 Peterbilt coal truck driven by Ronnie Click, 52, of Johnson County, the sheriff’s department said.

Click swerved to try to avoid hitting Harman’s 2000 Chevrolet Impala, but was unable to do so, the sheriff’s department said. Following the impact, both vehicles went off the road and into a field, where they came to rest.

Click was not injured in the collision, the sheriff’s department said.

The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by the Big Sandy and England Hill volunteer fire departments.
