Railroad show next weekend at park

ARGILLITE - The Tri-State Model Railroad Show, sponsored by the Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society, will be Saturday and March 21 at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park.

Trains of all kinds will be on display at the free event. Saturday’s activities will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the March 21 hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will also be free rides on steam trains operated by Joe Holbrook and Don Saager.

U.S. 23 cleanup volunteers sought

ASHLAND - The annual U.S. 23 cleanup sponsored by the Ashland Alliance will be from 9 a.m. to noon May 1.

The area included in the cleanup runs from South Shore to Catlettsburg in Boyd and Greenup counties. Volunteers are needed to pick up debris and trash along the 50-mile stretch of the Country Music Highway.

Missy McCalvin is the Boyd County volunteer coordinator and Debbie Gaines is the Greenup County coordinator.

2 from Ashland get appointments

ASHLAND - Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed two Ashland residents to state boards and commissions.

David Patrick Stump, a member of the Ashland Fire Department, has been appointed to the Commission on Fire Protection Personnel Standards and Education. His term runs through July 16, 2011.

Kimberly S. McCann, an Ashland lawyer, has been appointed to the Environmental Quality Commission. Her term runs through Jan. 1, 2014.



Scavenger hunt for bikers slated

IRONTON - A benefit scavenger hunt on motorcycles will be March 27 in Ironton.

Area motorcyclists are invited to participate in the event to collect Easter baskets and cash for the First United Methodist Church food bank in Ironton.

Registration will begin at 2 p.m. at Boomer’s in Ironton. The hunt will be from 3 to 6 p.m.



Boyd Dem club will meet TuesdayDonor rep will attend First Friday

ASHLAND - Joy Adkins, a representative of Kentucky Organ Donors Affiliates, will be at First Friday on April 2 at the Pendleton Art Center.

Adkins will provide information about organ and tissue donation.

Attendees may register to join the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry, see the Donor Family Memorial Quilt and learn about Kentucky’s new “Donate Life” license plate. April is National Organ Donor Month.



Windows 7 workshop set

ASHLAND - The Ashland Alliance is partnering with Microsoft to present an “Introduction to Windows 7” workshop from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. March 23 at the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center.

Chris Hooper of TSG Inc. will lead the free event.
