RACELAND — The 4th annual Rivertown Review, an evening of winter guard and dance performance, will focus on domestic violence prevention.
Rivertown Review will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Raceland-Worthington High School. Nine group ensembles and several solo and duet performances are on the program, which is sponsored by Rivertown Performing Arts League Inc. and Z Winter Guard of Flatwoods.
Z Winter Guard finished with first place at the Dayton Power Regional competition of Winter Guard International on Feb. 27. They competed in the Independent Regional “A Class” and took top score in the caption.
They also took home a third-place win at the Nashville Regional of WGI earlier in February in Independent Region “A” competition.
Winter guard, known as The Sport of the Arts, is a competitive youth activity that combines a choreographed dance routine incorporating colorful silks (flags), performance rifles and sabers.
Performers and attendees are asked to bring personal care products such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and other items for Safe Harbor of Northeast Kentucky, a regional domestic violence shelter.
Rivertown Review line-up includes performances by Z Winter Guard, Raceland-Worthington High School winterguard, Spring Valley winter guard, Vertigo winter guard, both of Huntington, Reflections color guard of St. Albans, W.Va., Chesapeake Ohio High School color guard, South Point High School Winter Guard, River Cities Dance Co. of Greenup and the Greenup County High School dance team of Lloyd.
Admission to Rivertown Review is $5. Children age 6 and younger are admitted at no cost. Concessions will be offered by the Raceland Ram Band Boosters.
