ASHLAND — The following information was taken from Ashland Police Department reports:
‰Police officers on Thursday shot and killed a pit bull dog that attacked one of them while they were responding to a reported domestic disturbance at the Colonial Inn, 1835 Winchester Ave.
The incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. According to the report, Officers Eric Homan and Josh Steele were dispatched to the motel after a report came in that a couple was fighting in a room on the second floor.
Homan knocked on the door and announced the officers’ presence. The female half of the couple opened the door and the dog lunged at Homan, barking, snapping and chasing him as he retreated backwards.
Homan wrote in the report that the dog continued to pursue him and that he felt he was in “imminent danger” from the animal, so he drew his duty weapon and fired two shots.
The dog’s carcass was later found on the east side of the motel, on the second floor, and was removed by the city street department.
The feuding couple told officers their dispute was verbal only and that there was no unlawful physical contact.
Burglary
‰Tri-Cities Promotional Group, 4218 Winchester Ave., reported a break-in Thursday. Nothing was stolen, but the building sustained $200 damage.
‰A resident of the 1600 block of Stewart Lane reported Wednesday computer equipment, tools, jewelry and clothing with a total listed value of $9,819 were stolen in a burglary.
‰A man living in the 800 block of Bath Avenue on Friday reported cash and other items, all valued at $3,715, had been stolen in a burglary.
‰A woman living in the 3400 block of Ridgeway Drive reported Monday tools valued at $800 had been stolen in a break-in. About $500 worth were later recovered.
Theft
‰An Ashland man was arrested at Central Park Thursday for allegedly stealing $140 cash from another man. Police also charged the suspect with third-degree drug possession and marijuana possession.
‰An Ashland man reported Monday tools valued at $3,888 were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at Boyd County Ford, 2119 Greenup Ave.
Shoplifting
‰A South Point juvenile was arrested Thursday for allegedly trying to steal merchandise valued at $27.84.
‰Shamrock Liquors, 1117 13th St., reported Wednesday a man made off with a bottle of liquor valued at $12.99.
‰An Ashland woman was arrested Wednesday for allegedly trying to steal items valued at $60.78 from Walmart.
‰A Greenup woman was arrested Tuesday at Walmart for allegedly attempting to steal items valued at $42.
