LOUISA —
The Lawrence County Septemberfest, often called “The best little festival in Kentucky,” will begin Friday in downtown Louisa with arts and crafts, a 5K and 10K walk/run, beauty pageant, car show, carnival, food booths, a fishing tournament and live musical performances from artists including Jason Michael Carroll, Rick K and the Allnighters and Bobby Cyrus.
The annual festival, which is celebrating 25 years, officially begins at 5 p.m. with an opening ceremony followed by Maelynn Huff at 5:15 p.m. and Heather Wilson at 6 p.m. Rock and roll music begins at 7 p.m. with The Chase, followed by Rick K and the Allnighters at 9 p.m. Rides and vendors will be open for downtown visitors before the opening ceremony.
Saturday’s Septemberfest action begins early with registration for the 5k/10 Walk Run Registration at Lawrence County High School starting at 7 a.m., along with a Masonic Lodge pancake breakfast at the lodge hall on Vinson Ave. The 5k/10k Walk Run starts at Lawrence County High School at 8 a.m. Food vendors, concessions, carnival and games open at 9 a.m., and parade lineup starts at Louisa Plaza at 9:30 a.m. and the 25th annual Septemberfest Parade begins at 11 a.m. The Lawrence County Saddle Club Trail Ride starts at 1 p.m.
Saturday’s music cranks up at 5:15 p.m. with Brooklyn Paige Conley, followed by Katilyn Baker at 6 p.m., Bobby Cyrus at 7:30 p.m. and Jason Michael Carroll at 9:30 p.m.
Septemberfest 2012 continues Sunday at Yatesville Lake with an open bass tournament starting at the Yatesville Lake Marina at 7 a.m., a kid’s fishing tournament at 1 p.m., and weigh in for the bass tournament at the marina starting at 4 p.m.
The Lawrence County Septemberfest began 25 years ago as the “potato festival,” and the former one-day event focused on local musical talent and street clogging has since been recognized as one of the best old fashion street festivals in the tri-state.

Huge tornado hits Oklahoma City suburb, kills 51
A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. At least 51 people were killed, and officials said the death toll was expected to rise.
