ASHLAND —
Library trustees’ meeting changed
ASHLAND - The Boyd County Public Library Board of Trustees has changed its August meeting to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 at the main branch, 1740 Central Ave. The board’s regular monthly meeting day is 4 p.m. the third Monday, with location rotating among the three branches.
Back to School Bash is Saturday
ASHLAND - The parking lot of South Ashland United Methodist Church will again be filled with music and games Saturday afternoon for the church’s second annual Back to School Bash. The free event is open to the community.
There will be hot dogs, drinks, popcorn and other snacks from 4 to 8 p.m., as well as games, spaceball, inflatables and live music.
Much like the Summer Bash in June, the event is an outreach ministry of the church, said Associate Pastor Bob Sweeney.
“This is not a fundraiser for us,” Sweeney said. “We won’t charge for anything. This is our way of helping people who live in the community to get to know our church a little better, and for our members to meet and visit with the folks who live near the church.”
About 400 attended the church’s first block party in 2011. While the heat affected attendance in June, the event was quite successful, Sweeney said.
In the event of inclement weather, activities will be moved to the church’s Family Life Center.
