Man charged with Catlettsburg theft
CATLETTSBURG
An Ashland man was arrested in connection with a burglary in Catlettsburg and three other suspects are wanted for questioning.
Reggie Jackson, 25, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property.
He is one of four suspects being sought by the Boyd County Sheriff’s Office. Surveillance cameras from Pawn Shop Express in Ashland captured images of the men who tried to pawn a television set without a remote.
Meth arrests at Rowan motel
MOREHEAD
A tip regarding a possible methamphetamine lab in a Rowan County motel led to three arrests on Monday.
Detectives at the Morehead post of the Kentucky State Police Post obtained information a lab was operating in a room at the Mountain Lodge Motel on Ky. 32, the KSP said. A search warrant was obtained and executed at the room in question.
Kaylena Rose, 26, of Morehead, was arrested on a charge of first-degree drug trafficking. Ashley Moore, 28, also of Morehead, was charged with first-degree drug possession and child endangerment.
Multiple items located in the motel room were consistent with those found in the production of meth, however, no active lab was discovered, the KSP said.
Information gathered at the scene led detectives to obtain a second search warrant. It was executed on a vehicle at the Family Dollar Distribution Center parking lot in Rowan County. John Howard, 22, of Morehead, was arrested on a charge of manufacturing meth, the KSP said.
Club continues Yule tradition
FLATWOODS
A Christmas tradition continued this week when the Kiwanis Club of East Greenup County presented its annual contribution to the Russell Fraternal Order of Police’s Shop With A Cop program.
The $100 donation was presented by Kiwanis Vice President Jason Bailey to Brian Tackett, a Flatwoods police officer representing FOP Lodge No. 45.
Thanks to an influx of last-minute donations, Tackett said the Russell lodge members were able to take more than 40 children shopping today at Walmart. Each youngster was allowed to pick out $100 worth of clothing and toys.
Shop With A Cop traces its roots to 1970 when then Russell Police chief Arvil Jesse assigned Officer Roy Parsons to the task of finding toys for needy boys and girls. That resulted first in a Christmas party during which toys were given out, and later into the Shop With A Cop program.
Kiwanis members have also been busy the past two Saturdays ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, another holiday tradition that allows Kiwanis members to join forces with its Key Clubs at the county’s three high schools, and with Builder’s Club members at Russell Middle School.
The Salvation Army kettle was manned at Pennington’s Foodfair on Dec. 8 and at Kroger on Dec. 15. The club has been recognized several times by the Salvation Army for collecting the most money among civic clubs volunteering to ring the bell.
