Soulful songs, personal stories, fables and cowboy tales, including yodeling, will attract visitors to the 12th annual Cave Run Storytelling Festival, scheduled for Sept. 24 and 25 at the Twin Knobs Recreation Area.
Bil Lepp of Charleston will return to the festival. His storytelling career began after he won the West Virginia Liar’s contest five times in a row.
Kevin Kling from Minneapolis will share childhood stories that touch on the universal human experience. Kling, a humorist and playwright, is also well known for his storytelling contributions to NPR’s “All Things Considered.”
Kentucky native Elizabeth Ellis is best known for her personal stories that will touch the heart of all her listeners during her 25-year career as a storyteller.
Dan Keding comes to the Cave Run Storytelling Festival from Chicago. He’s best known for his telling of the folktales of the world as well as personal narratives of his Chicago boyhood.
Regi Carpenter is a fourth-generation “river rat” who grew up on the St. Lawrence River in upstate New York. She began making up stories and songs as a child and has never stopped.
The Rev. Robert B. Jones is a musician, storyteller, radio producer, music educator as well as a minister. He has been a performer for more than 20 years.
Ernie Sites, a former rodeo cowboy from Southern Idaho, is author of a book, “Singing the Stories of the West.” His performance includes traditional and original western songs, yodeling, cowboy poetry, witty storytelling and trick roping demonstrations.
Tickets purchased before Sept. 12 receive a discount. Tickets are available at the Morehead Tourism Office, Coffee Tree Books or on the website caverunstoryfest.org.
