Rams, Tomcats up a spot in Super 7

Ashland’s impressive victory over Russell on Friday night has shaken up this week’s Super 7 a bit.

Russell, the previous No. 2 falls to No. 4 while the Tomcats climb up a spot to No. 3.

Ashland powered its way to nearly 350 yards on the ground and control its game against the Devils from start to finish.

Ashland coach Leon Hart said the victory should help build some confidence as the Tomcats embark on district play beginning this week.

Ashland (2-2) plays at Montgomery County on Friday and is home against another district opponent, Woodford County, in three weeks.

Russell coach Ivan McGlone said after Friday’s game that his team was simply overwhelmed by the Tomcats, but said it would be back to business as usual in practice today.

The Red Devils (3-1) host a district game this week against East Carter.

Staying at No. 1 is Johnson Central after a 36-29 victory at home against Shelby County.

The Golden Eagles picked up Friday’s game on the fly due to all games in the Louisville area being canceled because of hurricane damage. Central was originally scheduled to play at Shawnee.

Johnson Central (4-0) plays at Woodford County (3-1) this week for sole possession of first place in Class 5A, District 6.

The new No. 2 team is Raceland after a 37-12 win over Fairview.

The Rams outscored the previously beaten Eagles, which hold steady at No. 5 in the Super 7, 21-6 in the second half.

Raceland (3-0) is home this week for a big district game against Lexington Christian.

Fairview (3-1) will look to bounce back in its game at home against Paris.

No. 6 Boyd County picked up a 39-15 win over Pike County Central. Zac Wilson ran, passed and caught a touchdown in the win, which brought the Lions back to .500 on the season.

The Lions (2-2) play at home against Lawrence County on Friday.

No. 7 Rowan County was on a bye last week. The Vikings (2-1) play at Greenup County this week.
