So far, Rowan County is leaving no question as to the 16th Region’s top girls basketball team.
The unbeaten Lady Vikings mowed down four opponents last week and extended their record to 12-0.
Inside the region, Rowan County beat Lewis County and Elliott County by a combined 52 points. Outside, coach Scott Tackett’s team defeated Tates Creek 62-51 and Breathitt County 62-55.
The Lady Vikings will make trips this week to Morgan County (tonight) and Russell (Thursday).
Morgan County, No. 4 in The Independent’s regional poll, is coming off wins over Pike County Central and Russell last week.
Ashland, 5-0 against 16th Region teams, maintained a firm grip on the No. 2 spot by extending its winning streak to four games. Most recently, the Kittens defeated Boyd County 69-53 on Saturday.
Ashland visits Lewis County tonight and then returns home to face Morgan County on Thursday.
East Carter (10-3) went 3-0 last week and moved up two spots to No. 3. The Lady Raiders also play three times this week, beginning with a rematch tonight at district rival Elliott County. The No. 6 Lady Lions won the first meeting in double overtime.
Boyd County moved up a spot to fifth and is scheduled to play both Carter County teams this week.
