The inaugural Fall Brawl turned into a runaway for Team Evolution on Friday night at the Boyd County Community Center.
UFC veteran Spencer Fisher’s group of local fighters from Team Evolution came out swinging, making it a short night for many of the out-of-town fighters.
The Fall Brawl was sanctioned by the Kentucy Boxing and Wrestling Authority and put on by East Coast Promotions, with co-promoters Tom Hanshaw and Brian Knipp.
“It was a good show,” said Knipp. “To be honest with Friday night football — and a huge game over in Westwood (Raceland vs. Fairview) — I thought if we could get 200 that would be great. But after we added everything up, we had close to 400. The parking lot was full.”
He said Hanshaw made sure every child who came to watch left with a free hat and t-shirt.
“Nobody walked away empty-handed and everybody was entertained by the fights,” Knipp said. “They put on a tremendous show.”
The only local fighter who fell was Eric Jarvis, who lost a narrow unanimous decision to Anthony Nache of Iowa in the main event. It was selected as Fight of the Night.
“It was an unreal fight,” Knipp said. “Eric lost but it was a good battle. Nobody in that place was sitting down. The guy who beat him was really good.”

Dillon was awarded Submission of the Night and Billy Yates won Knockout of the Fight after dropping his opponent in 15 seconds.
The night started with an exhibition between two 7-year-old grapplers and a kickboxing exhibition. Both, Knipp said, were well received.
“Everything went even better than we’d hoped,” Knipp said. “The community center was a good venue for us with the way the lighting is set up and the way it’s laid out. I’m definitely going to use it again.”
East Coast Promotions hopes to have another card soon, he said.
“I’m flooded with fighters from all over the state who want to fight in our show,” Knipp said.

Rough Ending
Fairview senior Kennedy Womack wasn’t her consistent self in Saturday morning’s state tennis semifinals at the University of Kentucky’s Hilary Boone Tennis Complex.
As a result, the top seed fell to Lexington Sayre sophomore Madeline Rolph 6-1, 6-0.
Womack was obviously disappointed with her finish, especially after losing in last year’s state finals, but she was happy for her good friend Rolph. -
FLYING HIGH
If Fairview could have fielded a combined track and field team at Saturday’s Class A State Track and Field Championships, the Eagles and Lady Eagles would have had a record day. Instead, the Fairview girls had to “settle” for fifth, while the boys’ claimed 10th.
