ASHLAND — Pairings were set for the Boys 16th Region Tournament that begins first-round play Tuesday and Wednesday at Ellis T. Johnson Arena.
Defending champion Rowan County meets Fairview in the opening night at 8:15 p.m. following the opener between West Carter and Greenup County at 6:30.
On Wednesday, Ashland meets Fleming County at 6:30 and Russell plays East Carter at 8:15 p.m.
Semifinals will be Friday night at 6:30 and 8:15 p.m. The championship will be a week from Monday at 7:30 p.m.
63rd District: Russell double shifts it
During last year’s 63rd District championship game, Russell and Greenup County went eight innings. On Wednesday night the two teams decided more was necessary.
Two times Tuesday night did Greenup County coach Greg Logan think about taking Will McCall out of the game, and two times did McCall convince his coach there was no need for a change.
