Lawrence, Johnson Central fall

PINEVILLE — Lawrence County’s storybook season came to a crashing finish Friday night on Log Mountain.

Bell County broke open a tight game with a 20-point third quarter and rolled to a 41-0 victory in the Class 4A regional finals. The defending state champion Bobcats will play Boyle County in next week’s semifinals.

Bell County took advantage of Lawrence County mistakes to take a 14-0 halftime lead behind a pair of touchdowns from Corey Davenport on runs of 24 and 1.

Davenport’s third TD early in the third quarter make it 21-0 and on the next possession Matt Raines returned a Bulldog fumble 67 yards for a score that made it 27-0 and put the game out of reach.

Lawrence County had a dream season, taking a 12-0 record into the regional final. Last year, the Bulldogs went 0-11 and the season finished with a 62-0 loss to Bell County.

Dominic Carton and John Dudley Hilton added touchdown runs for the Bobcats, who take a 12-1 record to the semifinals.

Highlands 42, Johnson Central 21

FORT THOMAS Top-ranked Highlands pulled away from Johnson Central in the second half for a 42-21 victory in the Class 5A regional finals Friday night.

Austin Collinsworth scored three touchdowns to lead the Bluebirds, who take a 12-0 record into next week’s state semifinals.

Nathan Dillon had three touchdowns for the Golden Eagles, who trailed only 21-14 at halftime against Highlands, which was ranked No. 9 in the USA Today national high school poll.

Highlands scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Johnson Central finished 8-5 after losing its first four games.
