NELSONVILLE, Ohio — For the second week in a row, Ironton fought for its playoff life in overtime.
But it wasn’t so kind this time around in the Division IV Region 15 finals Saturday night at Dave Boston Stadium.
Coschocton won 20-14 as Marcus Johnston scored on a 3-yard run. Ironton lost the coin toss and was forced to go on offense. After gaining only one yard on three plays, a 36-yard field goal attempt by Keith Wetzel was blocked.
Coshocton got a five-yard run by Johnston and then Logan Huebner threw 12 yards to Keith Corbitt to put the ball at the 3. Johnston was tackled for a two-yard loss, Zack Shaw got the two yards back and then Johnston pushed his way into the end zone and the delayed call by the officials finally signaled touchdown.
Turnovers were Ironton’s biggest enemy in the first half. A fumble and an interception led to both Coshocton touchdowns.
Coschocton scored twice in the second quarter and led 14-7 at the half. Jon Monnig caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Josh Pancake with 27 seconds left in the half for Ironton.
Ethan Parsons’ 8-yard run in the third quarter tied it.
Ironton finished 10-3.
