LOUISA —
The Rev. Msgr. Ralph W. Beiting, 88, of Louisa, passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, in King’s Daughters Medical Center following a brief illness.
Msgr. Beiting was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Newport, the son of the late Ralph T. and Martha C. Hiance Beiting. He was ordained Diaconate at the Shrine of Immaculate Conception, 1948, Catholic University in Washington by Most Reverend Bishop McNamara; Priesthood at the Cathedral Basilica, Covington, June 4, 1949, by Most Reverend Bishop William T. Mulloy. In 1957, he founded, with permission of Bishop Mulloy, the Cliffview Lodge in Garrad County with the purpose being to care for the children of the mountain area of Kentucky. In 1962, with permission of Bishop Ackerman, he founded the Christian Appalachian Project. He also authored several books on Appalachia during his lifetime.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Jim Beiting, Doris Beiting, Jerry Beiting, Donald Beiting, Rose Beiting, Sister Mary Martha Beiting, Ann Schadle and Mary Lou Deavy. He was preceded in death by sister, Dorothy Noll; and brothers Raymond and Paul Beiting.
Visitation for Msgr. Beiting will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at the Saint Jude Catholic Church in Louisa. Reception of the Body and Vespers, Evening Prayers of the Church, will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 900 Winchester Ave., Ashland, with visitation from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Aug. 13, 2012, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, with the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Cold Spring. Burial will follow in the Saint Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Fr. Beiting Appalachian Mission Fund for the Mountain Missions.
Arrangements are under the care of Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa.
