Loretta Fannin (1926-2007)
Loretta Fannin, 80, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday, May 11, 2007, in Bryant Health Care Center in Ironton, Ohio.
Mrs. Fannin was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Paintsville, Ky., a daughter of the late Paris Ward and Maudie Preston Ward.
She was a retired clerk at Myers Rexall Pharmacy and a member of River Baptist Church in Paintsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Ray Fannin.
Mrs. Fannin is survived by her husband, Ernest Ray Fannin; a daughter, Faye Lyons of Flatwoods, Ky.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roy Ward of River, Ky.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Freda Louise Adams
Mrs. Freda Louise Adams, 62, of Spring Hill, Tenn., died May 11, 2007.
Mrs. Adams was originally from Kentucky. She was a member of Highland Avenue Church of God in Columbia, Tenn., a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Lena White Riffe, and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Billy Adams of Spring Hill; daughters Tina Adams of Spring Hill, Teresa (Bobby) Williams of Lexington, Ky., and Janetta (Kelly) Blevins of Spring Hill; brothers James (Frances) Riffe, Johnny (Doris) Riffe and Charles (Leosa) Riffe of Flatwoods, Ky.; sisters Dorothy Todie (Pete) Deal of Ashland, Ky., and Leona williams of Flatwoods; granddaughter Hanna Kellene Grace Blevins; and sons by love, Mike Lewis, Wayne Miller, Kris Taivalkoski and Clif Doyal.
Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Highland Avenue Church of God in Columbia by Steve Hickerson, Donnie Kelly, James Blair and Scott Mason.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Blevins, Bobby Williams, Clif Doyal, David Hickerson, Kris Taivalkoski and Wayne Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Smith, Rose Bales, Judy Daniel, Vera Gross, Mildred Taylor and congregation members of the Lewisburg Church of God.

Richard Craig Toby (1964-2007)
Richard Craig Toby, 43, of Greenup, Ky., died Friday, May 11, 2007, in University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.
Mr. Toby was born May 10, 1964, in Vallejo, Calif., a son of Darrel Toby of the Philippines and Nancy Reames Gifford of San Bernardino, Calif.
He was a crises counselor and psychiatric technician for Pathways Inc. in Ashland, Ky. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenup and a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was a member of Greenup Volunteer Fire Department and was named Firefighter of the Year in 2004.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Cynthia Eileen Doran Toby of Greenup; a son, Terry Craig Toby of Greenup; a daughter, Marissa Carolina Toby of Greenup; three brothers, Gene Gifford of Victorville, Calif., Jimmy Gifford of Porterville, Calif., and Dino Toby of San Diego, Calif.; and a sister, Wendy Smith of San Diego.
Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup by Brother Jack Edwards, Dr. Tom Melvin and Brother Mike Worthington.

Myrtle Hughes Meek (1907-2007)
Myrtle Hughes Meek, 99, of Louisa, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 12, 2007, in Kingsbrook Life Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Sept. 25, 1907, in Busseyville, Ky., one of 10 children and daughter of the late David and Emma Curnutte Hughes.
Myrtle formerly taught in schools in Blackburn, Patrick Gap, Pleasant Ridge and Busseyville. She married Bourbon E. Meek in October 1930, and they lived in the Busseyville area all their lives.
Myrtle was the first woman in Lawrence County, Ky., to be elected to county office. She served as tax commissioner for four terms. She later worked as an insurance clerk at Riverview Hospital until her retirement in 1972.
She was a member of Busseyville Methodist Church for 60 years until the church ceased in April 1988. She attended First United Methodist Church in Louisa until early 2006, when her health began to fail her. Myrtle spent her later life at her home in Busseyville, keeping herself busy with church work, needlework, making quilts, gardening and other activities necessary in keeping a home.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Bourbon E. Meek, in November 1985; her brothers, Monroe, Morton, Mitchell and Merle Hughes; and her sisters, Noma, Mexia, Maudia and Margie.
She is survived by three children, Cora Jean Newman of Ashland, Ruth Spradlin of Springfield, Ohio, and Zane G. Meek of Ashland; a sister, Madge Bayes of Springfield; a sister-in-law, Eula Ward Meek of Louisa; seven granchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Louisa by the Rev. Art Honican. Burial will be in David Hughes Family Cemetery in Busseyville.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today, May 14, 2007, at Young Funeral Home in Louisa.

Norma McMahan
Norma Lee Lewis McMahan, 95, of South Shore, died Saturday in South Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. McMahan was born in Lewis County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. McMahan.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at South Shore First Church of God.

Orbin Roman Jr., 85, of Paintsville, died Sunday.

Myrtle Trent (1921-2007)
Myrtle Caudill Trent, 85, of Clearfield, died Saturday in St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Mrs. Trent was born June 6, 1921.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wyatt Trent.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
