Steven Blaine Griffith - 1957-2008

Steven Blaine Griffith, 50, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, June 16, 2008, from injuries he received in an automobile accident.

Mr. Griffith was born Oct. 24, 1957, in Ashland, a son of Ruth Griffith Russell of Ashland and the late Clifton Griffith.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kevin Griffith.

He was a landscaper and a member of First Baptist Church of Ashland.

Additional survivors include a son, Jacob Griffith of Ashland; a brother, David Bruce Griffith and wife Lee of Versailles, Ky.; a stepbrother, Robert Russell and wife Tawnee of Versailles; a sister, Jennifer Griffith of Mount Vernon, Ky.; and a special friend, Kathy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Steven will be dearly missed by his loving family and a host of friends.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Dr. Ronnie Mayes. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Tiarra Nicole Phillips - 1993-2008

Tiarra Nicole Phillips, 14, of Flatwoods, Ky., passed away Monday morning, June 16, 2008, in Cabell-Huntington Hospital as a result of injuries she suffered in a car accident.

She was born Oct. 26, 1993, in Ashland, the daughter of Melissa Phillips Plumley and her husband, Les, of Flatwoods and Everett Suttles of Ashland.

She was a member of the Student Service Team and was looking forward to becoming a freshman at Russell High School this fall. She was loved very much by all of her many friends and family. Tiarra attended Gospel Light Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Alissa Phillips of Flatwoods; a half brother, Brandon Fowler of Ashland; grandparents Paul and Jeanie Johnson of Ashland, Willis and Linda Phillips of Ashland, Donald and Barbara Lilly of North Carolina, Kenneth Suttles of Ironton, Ohio, and Vickie Suttles of Lexington, Ky.; four great-grandmothers, Glenna Runyon, Nell Phillips, Alice Suttles and Christine Scarberry; many aunts, uncles and cousins whom she loved and was close to; and her closest and best friend, Kristen Perkins.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Donald Young. Burial will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery.

Barbara “Peggy” Burton - 1947-2008

Barbara “Peggy” Burton, 60, of Grayson, died Monday, June 16, 2008, at her residence following a long illness.

She was born Oct. 19, 1947, in Grayson, a daughter of the late Hyton Eugene Sexton and Opal Marie Gose Sexton Glass. She was a homemaker and an avid bingo player.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Burton, in 1983; a stepfather, Gail Glass; and three brothers, Mike Sexton, Phillip Glass and Danny Dale Sexton.

She is survived by four daughters, Beth and Scott Peer of Westerville, Ohio, Becky Burton, Miccia Burton Kouns and Wesley Kouns and Jessie Lynn Green, all of Grayson; two sons, Curtis Burton of Grayson and Johnny Burton of Wabash, Ind.; three sisters, Bonnie Thomas, Sue Waggoner and Liz Glass, all of Grayson; two brothers, Hyton Sexton and Clyde Glass, both of Grayson; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by Clell Lucas. Burial will be in Easterling Cemetery.

Joseph Gardner Sr. - 1951-2008

Joseph Rann Gardner Sr., 57, of Ashland, died June 11.

He was born May 29, 1951, in Ashland.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Quinn Chapel AME Church in Ironton, Ohio.

Tony Cooper - 1978-2008

Tony Gus Cooper, 30, of Catlettsburg, died Sunday in Cabell Huntington Hospital from injuries he suffered in an automobile accident on Thursday.

He was born March 11, 1978, in Columbus, Ohio.

His wife, Brenda Lou Spillman Cooper, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Burial will be in Isaacs-Cooper Cemetery.

Olive Whitt - 1928-2008

Olive Marie Holbrook Whitt, 80, of South Shore, died Monday in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

She was born April 27, 1928, in Greenup County.

Her husband, Floyd T. Whitt, preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at Collier Memorial Gardens in South Portsmouth.

Claude “CP” Patterson

Claude “CP” Patterson, 57, of Burlington, formerly of South Shore, died Monday in St. Luke East Hospital in Fort Thomas.

Virginia Hale

Virginia Hale, 67, of Greenup, died Tuesday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.



Edgel Hall

Edgel Hall, 85, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, died Monday in Heartland Health Care Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

He was born in Floyd County.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore.

Emma Dunn Crawford, 74, of Hagerhill, died Monday in Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville.

Her husband, Bill Crawford, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Carson Cemetery at Hazel Green.



Ernest Fraley - 1948-2008

Ernest Ray Fraley, 60, of Morehead, died Tuesday at his residence.

He was born April 2, 1948.

His wife, Kathie Kiser Fraley, survives.

A family graveside service will be at Prince Cemetery in Elliottville.

Marie Gussler - 1917-2008

Marie G. Gussler, 90, of London, Ohio, died Sunday in Arbors West in West Jefferson, Ohio.

She was born Aug. 30, 1917, at Ellen.

Her husband, Leonard Gussler, died in 1995.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Yatesville Memorial Gardens.

Okie Stephens - 1920-2008

Okie Stephens, 87, of Louisa, died Tuesday in J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center in Louisa.

He was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Elliott County.

His wife, Samantha Magdalene Sparks Stephens, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Yatesville Memorial Gardens in Louisa.
