Wilma Kregar (1911-2008)

Wilma Richmond Kregar, 97, of Ashland died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. She was born Oct. 21, 1911, in Juanita, Mich., a daughter of the late Otis and Catherine Conklin Richmond. She was the wife of Louis F. Kregar, who preceded her in death in 1987. She was a member of Mills Memorial Baptist Church in Mayville, Mich., and attended Christ United Methodist Church in Ashland. She was a homemaker and a former bookkeeper.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, James Richmond.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Becky Kregar of Washington, Ill.; one daughter, Sandra Kovar of Ashland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin and Alice Ramlow and Donald and Arlene Ramlow, all of Florida; grandchildren, Jenny Kovar Blandford and husband, Patrick of Maumee, Ohio, Catherine Kovar Stafford and husband, George, of Lexington, Wendy Kregar Norlin and husband, John, of Washington, Ill., and Deanna Kregar Bishop and husband, Michael Todd of Milan, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Daniel Blandford, Katie Blandford, Sarah Stafford, Sean Stafford, James Erick Norlin, Joshua Norlin, Alyssa Bishop, Robert Bishop and Mason Bishop.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Steen Funeral Home, Central Avenue Chapel, in Ashland, with the Rev. William Moore officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Rich Township Cemetery in Mayville, Mich.

Visitation will be after noon Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to Christ United Methodist Church, 2335 Pollard Road, Ashland, Ky. 41101.

Michael Conley (1946-2008)

Michael “Mickey” Conley, 61, of Ashland died Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at his home, following a short illness. He was born Dec. 27, 1946, in Boyd County, a son of the late Daniel B. and Ivory Coffey Conley. He was the husband of Carol West Conley, who survives. He was a member of Meade Station Church of God, Greenhill 521 F&AM; and the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 248, where he retired. He was discharged as a specialist 4th Class with the Army National Guard.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Conley.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Lisa C. (Krys) Bowman of Lexington; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Harold and Betty Conley and Marvin and Donna Conley, all of Ashland and Joan Conley of Westwood; one grandog, Wrigley.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home, 13th Street Chapel, in Ashland, with Pastor Rob Jordan officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Linda Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Meade Station Church of God, 1315 Marsh Hill, Ashland, Ky. 41102.

Ethel Frazier (1918-2008)

Ethel “Bea” Frazier, 90, of Ashland died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at her residence. She was born March 29, 1918, in Salyersville, the daughter of the late Ernest and Lizzie Arnett Flynt. She was the wife of the late Troy Wilson Frazier. She was a member of the 13th Street Baptist Church in Ashland.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Frazier VanBuren; a son, James E. Frazier; two brothers, Claxton Flynt and Mick Flynt.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Valeri Reeves of Ashland; three grandsons, Dr. James M. Frazier of Louisville, Todd Riddlebarger of Ashland and Troy Clark of Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Betty Frazier of Ashland; five great-grandchildren, T.J. Redden and Jade Redden, both of Flatwoods, Hope Clark of Lexington, and Alex Frazier and Anna Frazier, both of Louisville.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home by Pastor Bill Parker. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.



Mary Becker (1914-2008)

Mary F. Lee Becker, 94, longtime resident of Catlettsburg and more recently of Downy, Calif., passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Wurtland Nursing and Rehab Center in Wurtland. She was born Oct. 6, 1914, in Boyd County, the daughter of the late Colbert E. and Victoria Marcum Lee. Her husband, Ralph Becker, preceded her in death. She was a homemaker.

Surviving is a loving family including a daughter, Jill Watson of Ashland; two sons, Julius Watson and his wife Paula, of Rice, Texas, Jack Watson of Lutherville, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Allen; four brothers, George W. Lee, Warfield Lee, James Lee and Cobbie Lee.

A service in remembrance of Mary will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. A message of comfort and reassurance will be offered by Chaplain James Smedley. Final rest will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.



Ray Perry (1930 - 2008)

Ray Walden Perry, 78, formerly of Russell, and more recently of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at St. Luke Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born Feb. 16, 1930, in Webbville, the son of Ethel Thompson Perry of Ashland, and the late Lewis Jack Perry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served during the Korean Conflict and was a 30-year employee of Armco Steel Shipping Department and attended New Life Christian Fellowship in Jacksonville. His passion was bluegrass music.

Left behind is a loving family including his wife of 52 years, Annette Pack Perry; a daughter Angela Jones and her husband Jeff, of Jacksonville; two sons, Mark Perry and his wife Kathy, of Greenup and Tim Perry and his wife Ruth, of Ashland; two sisters, Gloria Jean Webb and Ruth Delores Neal, both of Ashland; three brothers, Bob Perry of London, Ohio, Randy Perry of Biloxi, Miss., and Bill Perry of Grayson; and seven precious grandchildren, Ian, Colden, Majal, Brysen, Mes´a, Baylen and Luke.

Along with his father, preceding him in death is a brother, Woodrow "Woody" Perry.

A service to celebrate the life of Ray Perry will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort will be offered by Pastor David Webb. Final rest to follow will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland. Military graveside rites will be provided by the 201st Kentucky ANG Honor Detail.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.



Ray Starr (1926-2008)

Ray Starr, 82, of Russell died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell. He was born Feb. 27, 1926, in Delbarton, W.Va., a son of the late Freeland and Emma Whitt Starr. He was the husband of 50 years to Viola Stevens Starr, who survives. He was an oven foreman with AK Coke Plant and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and Army.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Rick Blevins of Russell; two grandsons and their spouses, Jason and Jana Blevins of Flatwoods and Nathan and Teresa Blevins of Russell; and nine grandchildren, Autumn Caudill and Savannah, Laney, Dylan, Michael, Alex, Wade, Jade and McKenzie Rae Blevins.

Funeral will be at noon Wednesday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with Pastor Ken Gowin officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.



Mary Magdelene Carroll Sparks (1916-2008)

Magdelene Sparks, 91 of Aden Road near Olive Hill died Saturday afternoon at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. She was born Dec. 27, 1916, in West Virginia a daughter of the late William Nelson and Vida Rogers Carroll.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Addie Easter Sparks; one son, Jake Littleton; one sister, Loretta Womack; one brother J.T. Carroll; and one half brother, Lawrence Rogers.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Gregoryville Christian Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Glenna Jean (John) Littleton of Aden Road; one grandson, Dale Littleton; and one great-grandson, John Dalton Littleton both of Sandy Hook.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Bob Church, minister. Burial will follow at Newell Cemetery in Grahn.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Steven Brumfield (1972-2008)

Steven Donald Brumfield, 36, of Ashland died Friday at his home.

He was born Jan. 7, 1972, in Ironton, Ohio.

Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mamre Cemetery in Kitts Hill, Ohio.

There will be no visitation.

Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of the arrangements.

Brent Shattles, 36, of Ashland died Sunday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland.



Mary Reis Rose (1932-2008)

Mary Reis Rose, 76, of Hope Mills, N.C., died Saturday at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, N.C.

She was born April 16, 1932, in Lewis County.

Her husband, Harold J. Rose, preceded her in death.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Burial will be in Blankenship Cemetery in Camp Dix.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.



Ruby Ousley (1928-2008)

Ruby Ellen Fairchild Ousley, 80, of Martin died Saturday at the Riverview Healthcare Center in Prestonsburg.

She was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Van Lear.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Martin Cemetery.
