Cecil Madison Keeney (1927-2009)

Cecil Madison Keeney, beloved husband of Ruth C. Keeney, died Jan. 4, 2009.

Surviving are two sons, Michael D. (Liz) and Richard M. (Dawnne); his grandchildren, Sean Keeney (Trish), Amy Grissen (Justin), Natalie Keeney and Nicholas Keeney; great-grandchildren, Christian, Carson and Charlie Keeney, Mason Crouch and Ruthie Grissen and numerous nephews and nieces who all loved him dearly.

Born in Aug. 4, 1927, in Flatwoods, Ky., he was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, a Third Degree Free Mason, a graduate of the University of Kentucky, a former chief engineer of the United States Coast Guard, chairman of Navy Day of New Orleans, Maritime Man of the Year, former owner and CEO of Equitable Shipyard, and owner and former chairman and CEO of Walle Corp.

He was a longtime member of the New Orleans Country Club, has served on numerous boards and was a two time King of the Krewe of Iris with his wife, Ruth serving as his Queen. He and Ruth moved to New Orleans in 1969 from Maryland and have called New Orleans their home. Cecil Keeney was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He was an inspiration to all whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation beginning at noon Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, with a service to follow at 2 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery). Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.



Danny Joel Hull

Danny Joel Hull, 70, of Leesburg, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008.

He was born in Raceland, Ky., and moved to Leesburg from Worthington, Ky., in 1963, when he opened Hulls Wood Product with his father. Later, he sold Hulls and worked privately as a custom cabinet builder. He was a musician, especially enjoyed playing the drums. He was an avid fisherman and loved to travel in his motorhome.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosalie of Leesburg; sister, Judy (Gary) Burroughs of Worthington; sister-in-law, DeAnna (John) Dean of Wildwood, Fla.; brother-in-law, Paul (Kathy) Hudson of Charleston, W.Va.; aunt, Tater Waskey of Raceland and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends at Beyers Funeral Home in Leesburg on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 from 11 to 11:30 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of choice.



Clyde Raymond Mooney (1947-2009)

Clyde Raymond Mooney, 91, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was the husband of the late Geraldine Lambert Mooney, whom he married Nov. 22, 1947. The Ironton native was born June 16, 1917, the son of the late Bernard and Josephine Davis Mooney.

Mr. Mooney was a graduate of Ironton High School and a veteran of the United States Navy where he served from 1942-1946. He was also a boilermaker with the C&O; Railroad and was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Herbert Mooney, Andy Mooney and Eugene Mooney; and sister, Bernice Eicher.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Carl “Butch” and Gretchen Mooney of Mount Gilead, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Steve Cordle of Rush, Ky.; sister, Lois Swing of Matthews, N.C.; grandchildren, Laura Lee, Matthew and Jodi Mooney, Jeremy Mooney and Courtney and John Floyd; and great-grandchildren, Montana Lee, Brooke Mooney, Caden Floyd and Sophie Floyd.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 6, 2009, at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South Seventh St., Ironton, Ohio, with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park with military rites by VFW Post 8850.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be at noon.

Imogene McCoy, 88, of Ashland, died Monday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Tiney Moreland

Tiney Moreland, 55, of Greenup, died Monday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.



Ninian Burke (1945-2009)

Ninian J. Burke, 63, of South Shore, died Sunday in Southern Ohio Medical Center.

She was born March 13, 1945, in Charleston, W.Va.

Her husband, William J. Burke, survives.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Cancer Center at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.



Ellen Samons

Ellen Irene Samons, 82, of Banner, wife of the late Gilbert Samons, died Sunday in University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Samons Cemetery in Martin.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.



James Bartram (1956-2009)

James Riley Bartram, 52, of Genoa, W.Va., died Sunday in Genoa.

He was born Sept. 28, 1956, in Louisa.

A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Copley Cemetery on Trace Branch.

There is no visitation.

Young Funeral Home in Louisa is in charge of arrangements.



Hazel Wright (1911-2009)

Hazel Blevins Wright, 97, of Sandy Hook, died Monday at her residence.

She was born Aug. 14, 1911, in Carter County.

Her husband, Roy L. Wright, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today and until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.



Emily Fyffe (1937-2009)

Emily Fyffe, 71, of Paintsville, died Sunday at her residence.

She was born Sept. 27, 1937.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Staffordsville.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



Lewis Murnahan (1922-2009)

Lewis Doyle Murnahan, 86, of Ironton, died Saturday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Lawrence County.

His wife, Mavis Witt Murnahan, survives.

A graveside service will be at noon Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton with military rites by VFW Post 8850 of Ironton.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton.
