Vonderine Evans (1932-2009)

Vonderine C. Evans, 76, of Bellefonte, formerly of Westwood went to be with her eternal Savior on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Vonderine was born Nov. 24, 1932, in Westwood, Ky., to the late Ted and Edna Mae Moore Crance.

She was a graduate of Ashland High School and a retired medical office manager for Dr. William E. Hoy Jr. She was a Kentucky colonel and a member of the Bellefonte Country Club, the Country Lane Garden Club and the Paramount Woman’s Association. She attended Ashland Wesleyan Church.

In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Jerry Allen, Roy and Ron Crance.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Vernon Evans of Bellefonte; a daughter, Deborah Evans-Dell and her husband, Dr. John Dell, of California; two brothers, Jake (Mary Ann) Crance of Ashland and George Crance of Flatwoods; two sisters, Sarah Jane (Flem) Gullett of Flatwoods and Diane (David) Bond of Grayson, Ky.; two sisters-in-law, Margaret (Phillip) Carroll of South Point, Ohio, and Kathy (Gary) Trusty of Florida; very special caregivers Regenia, Shirlene, Paulette and Barb; and a host of special neighbors and friends who have been a great inspiration during her illness.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Ashland Heights Wesleyan Church by Pastor Gordon Tilley and Pastor J.R. Gullett. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and an hour before services Tuesday at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood.



Betty Hamm (1930-2009)

Betty Hamm, 78, of Flatwoods, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 14, 2009, in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wurtland, Ky.

Mrs. Hamm was born July 29, 1930, in Johnson County, Ky., a daughter of the late John and Rose Bitterman McCarty.

She was of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving are her husband, Oval Hamm; three daughters, Connie Hamm of Ashland, Ky., Donna King of Florida and Emma Lou Hamm of Denver, Colo.; four sons, Jeff Hamm of Argillite, Ky., and Jerry Hamm, Gary Hamm and Larry Hamm, all of Naples, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.



Walter L. Minnehan (1932-2009)

Walter L. Minnehan (aka “Mouse” and “Little Deacon”), 77, of Flatwoods, Ky., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 14, 2009.

Walter was born May 4, 1932, in Ashland, Ky., to the late Willard and Lake Erie Minnehan. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was retired from Armco Steel with 30 years of service and was a veteran of the Air Force. He was a Kentucky colonel. He was the most giving and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was always making people laugh and was a dear friend to everyone.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Zella Frasure Minnehan; two sons, Randy (Becky) Minnehan and Rick Minnehan, both of Flatwoods; a daughter, Kim Minnehan of Flatwoods; a sister, Myrna (Michael) Denny of Indiana; two brothers, Bucky (Joyce) Minnehan and Jerry Minnehan, both of Ashland; five grandchildren, Cirissa (Bill) Quade of Connecticut, Ashley (Shawn) Deskins of Raceland and Courtney Minnehan, Justin Minnehan and Cody Minnehan, all of Flatwoods; and a precious great-grandchild, Maggie.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jerrine Minnehan; and three brothers, Carl, David and J.D. Minnehan.

The funeral will be at noon Monday, May 18, 2009, at Fairview Baptist Church. Words of comfort will be offered by Pastor Michael Rice. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 17 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.



Luther Kayser (1937-2009)

Luther Ray Kayser, 71, of Kimper, died Thursday in Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born July 17, 1937.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Bottom Old Regular Baptist Church House in Kimper. Burial will be in Kayser Family Cemetery in Kimper.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and Sunday at the church.

Thacker Funeral Home in Pikeville is in charge of arrangements.



Jimmie Whitt

Jimmie Whitt, 64, of Wellington, died Thursday at his residence.

His wife, Berchie Back Whitt, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Big Woods Community Church in Wellington. Burial will be in Big Woods Community Church Cemetery in Wellington.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the church.

Menifee Home for Funerals in Frenchburg is in charge of arrangements.



Gladis Gilliam (1950-2009)

Gladis Gilliam, 59, of Louisa, died Thursday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born Feb. 1, 1950, in Pilgrim.

Her husband, Russell Lee Gillliam, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Muncy Cemetery at Meathouse.

Dolpha McKenzie

Dolpha McKenzie, 95, of Volga, died Friday.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Paintsville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Patty Flat Cemetery at Flatgap.

Jessie Murray (1935-2009)

Jessie Murray, 73, of Paintsville, died Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

He was born Aug. 13, 1935, at Wheelwright.

His wife, Beverly Murray, survives.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Staffordsville.

Robert “Doggie” Lipker (1932-2009)

Robert E. “Doggie” Lipker, 76, of Ironton, died Thursday at his residence.

He was born Aug. 14, 1932, in Ironton.

His wife, Donna Herrell Lipker, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
