Janet Gail Waller (1943-2009)
Janet Gail Waller, 65, of Ashland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 15, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born Dec. 6, 1943, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Hobert and Bessie Conley Slone. She was a retired registered nurse and a member of Ashland First Assembly of God.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Leigh Riley.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Patrick Riley and his wife, Evelyn, of Ironton and Christopher Shane Riley and his wife, Karen, of Ashland; and a daughter, Rebekah Bess Waller and her fiancé, Brian Johnson, of Elwood, Ind. She was also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Christian Ann Riley and Shane Christopher Riley, both of Ashland, Patrick Douglas Riley of Ironton and Brian Kade Johnson, Tanner Lee Johnson and Izaac Van Johnson, all of Elwood.
She was also a friend to many and would give anyone the “shirt off her back.” She was a great testifier of the many blessings God had given her, most of all her family and friends.
Janet was also a wonderful R.N., working throughout Indiana, with her last job being at Sunset Nursing Home in Coal Grove. Anyone who ever worked with her always told of how she always had time to talk about the Lord and that she was a great worker, always ready to lend a helping hand. She will be missed by many as a loving mother, doting grandmother, faithful friend and loyal Christian.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles Shields. The family will receive friends after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Danah L. Thomas (1963-2009)
Danah L. Thomas, 45, of Ashland, died Wednesday in Ashland.
She was born Aug. 12, 1963, in Ashland, the daughter of Dallas L. Thomas of Russell and the late Barbara Franklin Thomas, who died in April 2009.
She attended Christ Temple Church in Ashland and was a 1982 graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School.
Survivors, in addition to her father, include two brothers and a sister-in-law, Darin L. and Devona Thomas and David L. Thomas, both of Ashland; a sister and brother-in-law, Dwinn and Mike Wood of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at noon Tuesday at Christ Temple Church in Ashland by Bishop Elzy Thomas. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods is in charge of arrangements.
Lena B. Helms
Lena B. Tackett Helms of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Ashland, died Thursday, May 14, 2009.
She was born in Westwood, a daughter of the late Wesley and Della Caudill Tackett.
She is survived by her husband, Gale Helms of Sebring; a daughter, Dinah Searle of Syracuse, N.Y.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of Syracuse; and a sister, Gertrude Barber of Flatwoods.
Graveside services will be by the Rev. Michael Locklear at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods. There will be no visitation.
Caniff Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hattie Lou Baldridge Howard, 70, of Prestonsburg, died Saturday in Pres-stonsburg Health Care Center.
She was born June 20, 1938.
Her husband, O.R. “Pete” Howard, survives.
