Sterling Price Gussler Jr. - 1925-2009
Sterling Price Gussler Jr., 83, of Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Sybene, Ohio, a son of the late Sterling Price and Fannie Fraley Gussler Sr.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Catherine Hays Gussler.
He was a retired carpenter, a member of Moore Street Tabernacle and a Kentucky colonel.
Surviving are his wife, Bonita Rose Risk Gussler of Ashland; three sons, Phillip Gussler and his wife, Sherrie, of Ashland, Mark Gussler and his wife, Daveena, of Kissimmee, Fla., and Greg Gussler and his wife, Cheri, of Ashland; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his dogs, Prissy and Baby.
The funeral will be at noon today, May 21, 2009, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup by Brother Homer Bradley. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Garden in Ashland.

Joshua Tyler Moore - 1984-2009
Joshua Tyler Moore, 24, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, during surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Lafferty Moore, whom he married May 23, 2007; his father, Dane Moore; his brothers, Jarrod D. Moore and Jordan C. Damron; his grandparents, William and Wiletta Damron; and his mother and father-in-law, Brenda Lafferty and Wayne Lafferty, all of Ashland.
Additional survivors include his aunts and uncles, Lynne and Bill Prichard of Winchester, Ky., Brenda Frye of Rush, Ky., Marc and Phyllis Moore, Walta Kay and Darrell Bowen of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Greg and Jennifer Moore of Ashland; great-aunts and great-uncles, Dale and Janet Hunt of Georgetown, Ky., Dorothy Hunt of Little River, S.C., and Paul Prince of Ashland; and a host of cousins.
Josh was preceded in death by his mother, Lori LeMaster Moore, in 1998; an uncle, Chris Damron; his grandfather, Walter Moore; his grandmother, Betty Moore Hutchinson; his great-grandmother, Thelma Hunt; his great-grandfather, Chester Hunt; a cousin, Kelly Yates; a very special great-aunt, Judy Hunt Prince; and a special great-uncle, Arnold Hunt.
Joshua graduated from Catlettsburg Christian Academy and was baptized and became a member of Unity Baptist Church in 1993. He loved music and playing the guitar. He had a sweet protective and humbling nature and was loved by everyone who met him.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday by Brother Dale Henson at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be after noon Friday at the funeral home.

Ethel Adkins Dodson - 1921-2009
Ethel Adkins Dodson, age 87, of Ashland, Ky., died May 19, 2009 in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
She was born Oct. 17, 1921, in Ashland, a daughter of the late James S. and Effie Lockwood Cordial.
She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Eugene Adkins and Walter Dodson; a brother, Charles Cordial; and sisters Edith Noyes (her twin sister), Effie Mae Charles, Elizabeth Peterson and Eva Jean Cordial.
Mrs. Dodson retired from Sears credit department and worked at Clayton Lambert during World War II. She was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are nephews James Michael Noyes of Versailles, Ky., and Chuck D. Charles of Ashland; and niece Elizabeth “Libby” Noyes-Palmer of Bethesda, Md. Also surviving are nephews Randall Memmer of Ashland and Alan Cordial of Pittsburgh, Pa.; nieces Kathy Lynn Hampton of Catlettsburg, Ky., Sandra Kay Bonetta of Cypress, Texas, and Becky Little of Ashland; grandniece Morgan Palmer and grandnephew Gavin Palmer, whom she considered her grandchildren; and a sister, Sandless McBridge of Cypress.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Guy Moyer. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Garden in Ashland.

Samuel H. Elliott - 1940-2009
Samuel H. Elliott, 68, of Grayson, Ky., passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at his residence.
He was born May 20, 1940, in Carter County, Ky., a son of the late James and Betty Everman Elliott.
He was a boilermaker for more than 35 years with Local 40 of Elizabethtown, Ky., and attended the First Baptist Church in Grayson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Harold Tackett; two brothers, William Elliott and James Elliott; and a nephew, Brad Elliott.
His survivors include his wife, Diane Baker Elliott of Grayson; three sons, Tommy and Dana Elliott, Tony Tackett and Dean and Jina Tackett, all of Grayson; two sisters, Ruth Starr of Columbus, Ohio, and Anna Lee Davis of Columbia, S.C.; two brothers, Tom Elliott of Grayson and Doug Elliott of Westwood, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Donald Damron and Phillip LeMaster, officiating. Burial will be in the Everman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, May 21 and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Joe A. Young - 1930-2009
Joe A. Young, 78, of Louisa, Ky., passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born Sept. 13, 1930, in Louisa, a son of the late Curt and Myrtle Fyffe Young. He owned Joe A. Young Insurance Agency and was an insurance and real estate agent for 50 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a past chairman for the Lawrence County Water District, was a member of the Louisa Rotary Club, past chairman of the Republican Party, a member and past president of Paul Harris Fellow of Louisa, a Kentucky colonel, a graduate of Louisa High School and attended Marshall University and Eastern Kentucky University. He was active in various community activities.
Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Lucille Workman Young of Louisa; a son, Regan Lee Young of Louisa; a very special granddaughter, Kinsley Catlin Jalee Young; a sister, Darlene Young of Winchester, Ky.; a brother, Maxwell (Glenna) Young of Lexington, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; and three loyal employees, Debbie Hanshaw, Cheryl Roe and Julie Crabtree.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Louisa with Brother Ric Frazier officiating.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa.
