Daisy Dean Moore Kitchen - 1917-2009
Daisy Dean Moore Kitchen, 92, of W-Hollow, Greenup, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at the home of her daughter following a long illness.
Daisy was born Jan. 6, 1917, on Laurel Road at Oldtown, a daughter of the late Fred and Maude Ramey Moore. At the age of 13, she moved with her family to their farm on W-Hollow.
Daisy was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard F. Kitchen, who died May 8, 1988; a brother, Tracy Moore; three sisters, Nella Mae Brown, Jewell Boggs and Sylvia Lois Moore; two nephews, Fred Brown and Charles J. Boggs; and a niece, Lois M. Clark.
Daisy worked for many years as a cook for the Greenup Independent School district. She enjoyed feeding the children at the former Greenup Elementary School. She also enjoyed tending the family farm alongside her husband, Leonard. Together, they raised beautiful crops and enjoyed sharing their harvest with many friends and neighbors. A loving mother and grandmother, Daisy possessed a warm heart and compassionate spirit. It has often been said that “no one ever left her house hungry.” Daisy was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenup.
Surviving are a sister, Wanda June Copley of Flatwoods; two daughters, June (Ray) Collier and Deana (Darrell ) Poplin, both of Greenup; four grandsons, Tim Collier of Knoxville, Tenn., David Collier of Greenup, Rex Poplin and Gabriel Poplin, both of Greenup; one granddaughter, CIndy Collier of Greenup; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, 2009, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by brother Danny Brown. Burial will be in the Kiser-McGinnis Cemetery at Ironhill.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home.

Larry Dean Payne - 1962-2009
Larry Dean Payne, 47, of Flatwoods, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009.
Mr. Payne was born Jan. 2, 1962, in Russell, a son of Goldie Keeton Triplett of Catlettsburg, and the late Leslie McGuire.
Larry was a loving and caring husband and was a wonderful father and grandfather. His love for Rita was one of a kind.
In addition to his mother, he also is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rita Adams Payne; one son, Larry Matthew Payne of Flatwoods; one daughter, Sarah Mae (Steven) Akers of Flatwoods; one brother, Dennis Payne of Cannonsburg; five sisters, Rita (Roger) Johnson of Catlettsburg, Janet Payne of Flatwoods, Kathleen (Joe) Young of Flatwoods, Kay Bryant of Raceland and Diane Short of Kehoe; seven grandchildren, Hunter Russell, Taylor Russell, Stephanie Akers, Amanda Akers, Micah Brown, Noah Matthew Payne and Leslie Payne; father- and mother-in-law, Arnold and Vera Adams of Greenup.
He also was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roscoe and Kathleen Keeton, and a brother, Jeffery Payne.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by brother Wayne Stephenson.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Caroline Cemetery in Raceland. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
Cecil Sands - 1918-2009
Cecil Sands, 90, of Louisa, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 22, 2009, at the Dayton VA Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
Mr. Sands was born in Malta, Ohio, on Aug. 5, 1918, to parents Ellis Blaine and Elizabeth (Humphrey) Sands. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Samantha; brothers Donald (Mildred) Sands, George (Shirley) Sands and John Sands; his sisters, Eleanor (Sylvie) Massey, Marge (Keith) Hanlin; brother-in-law Bob Carr; and sister-in-law Blanche Sands. He is survived by his son, Marvin (Lynda) Sands; grandson Derek (Mandie) Sands, great-granddaughter Ella Sands; granddaughter Andrea (Chris) Boy; sister Sarah Carr; and brother, Bob Sands.
Cecil was a loving father and dedicated caregiver to his wife, Samantha, who was in a nursing home the last 26 years of her life. He was a totally disabled veteran who was in the second day of invasion of Normandy in World War II and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Louisa.
Visitation will be Monday, May 25, 2009, from noon to 2 p.m. with the funeral services immediately following at 2 p.m. at Young Funeral Home in Louisa with the Rev. Ric Frazier officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church of Louisa.

Wanda Laney, 73, of Ashland, died Saturday at her residence.
Mrs. Laney was born June 7, 1935.
